Spring Grove Monthly Meeting of Friends held first month 21st 1888.

The clerk not (being) present, Louisa E. Updegraff was appointed clerk for the day.

The committee appointed at last meeting to bring forward the name of suitable Friends to serve this meeting as Clerks the ensuing year are united in reporting the names of Smith Steward and Lovisa W. Gause with which this Meeting unites and they are appointed accordingly.

By an extract from the Quarterly Meeting minutes it appears that we are directed to forward our quote of $288.00 to the Quarterly Meeting treasurer as soon as practical.

(P 198) The Meeting directs the membership of this Meeting to pay over to our Treasurer what they feel able to pay for use of the Evangelistic and Pastoral work in this Quarterly Meeting.

The committee appointed to treat with John B. Gluyas upon charges prepared by the Overseers of Spring Grove Monthly Meeting finds the charges sustained and did not find him disposed to make satisfaction. The Meeting has come to the judgment that it will be right to disown him.

We, the undersigned members of the committee appointed at last meeting to investigate the charges brought against John B. Gluyas by the Overseers find that, in our opinion, they are justified in bringing the complaint as presented to us.

At Spring Grove Monthly Meeting of Friends held second month 18. 1888.

The Evangelistic committee appointed in first month 1887 make the following report which was satisfactory to the Meeting. The following members were continued as the committee: Lovisa W. Gause, Matilda Steward, Joseph Bones, C. O. Gause, Susan Bones, John Steward, Lewis C. White, and Mary Beals. Louisa E. Updegraff was also added to the committee. They are requested to report in second month next.

(P 199) Report of Evangelistic Committee

They report 21 afternoon prayer meetings held in Lane, 12 cottage meetings, visited 15 families of Friends belonging to the Monthly Meeting and a number of others not members. Have been instrumental in holding 36 meetings in Lynn Co., Kansas, and visited about 20 families, number of conversions under our work 12. Although having worked through much meekness and many discouragements, yet we feel that God has blessed our efforts.

It appears from the minutes of last meeting that the Meeting came to the judgment that it will be right to disown John B. Gluyas from being a member of the Society of Friends; therefore, his right of membership ceases as a member with us.

John B. Gluyas informs this Meeting in writing that he appeals from the decision of last Monthly Meeting to the ensuing Quarterly Meeting to be held at Hesper 3rd month 3rd 1888.

At Spring Grove Monthly Meeting of Friends held 3rd month 17th 1888.

The Women's clerk not being present, Louisa E. Updegraff was appointed for the day.

The representatives report three of them attended Quarterly Meeting and there was nothing given them in charge. Those not attending gave satisfactory excuse for not attending.

The committee appointed to attend the Quarterly Meeting to present the evidence of this Meeting in the case of John B. Gluyas' appeal report that they attended.

John Terrell informed this meeting that he desires to be released from the position of trustee of this Meeting. Lewis C. White, John Steward and Alex Burks are appointed to confer with him, and if not willing to retain his position, to propose the name of a suitable Friend to fill the position and report to next meeting.

The committee appointed at last meeting to confer with John Terrell in regard to his resignation as trustee find him not willing to retain his position and propose the name of Charles O. Gause to fill that position and is appointed accordingly.

At Spring Grove Monthly Meeting of Friends held 5 month 19th 1888.

Reuben Davis, John Steward, C. O. Gause, Elizabeth Burks and Annie Averill were appointed our representatives to attend the ensuing Quarterly Meeting and report to next meeting.

Jonathan Grewell, Charles Averill, Isaac Arnold, Zephaniah Bones, Lydia Davis, Louisa Updegraff, Lovisa W. Gause and Sarah Bones are appointed to attend the ensuing Quarterly Meeting as caretakers and report to next meeting.

The Meeting directed the following forms be used by the committee having charge of the Cemetery in transferring titles to families buying lots, that the trustees be authorized to sign said titles and that the committee having the matter in charge shall report annually in the 8th month the full condition of said Cemetery financially and otherwise.

At Spring Grove Monthly Meeting of Friends held 6 month 16th 1888.

The caretakers appointed at last meeting to attend the Quarterly Meeting report that they attended to the object of their appointment and report some money raised to defray expenses that was not used which this meeting directs them to use as may be needed.

The meeting of Ministry and Oversight of Hesper Quarterly Meeting held at Spring Grove 6.1.1888 recommend that Louisa E. Updegraff be recorded a minister of the Gospel with which this Meeting unites and she is appointed accordingly.

W. D. Burks, L. C. White, Charles Averill and S. Steward are appointed to reapportion the members of this Meeting and report to next meeting.

Matilda Steward, Lovisa Gause and Anna Averill are appointed to report the statistical standing of this Meeting and report to Meeting in 8th month.

At Spring Grove Monthly Meeting of Friends held seventh month 21st 1888.

The Clerk not being present, L. M. Stanley was appointed for the day.

The committee appointed at last meeting to reapportion the members of this Meeting for the raising of funds for meeting purposes make the following report which was satisfactory.

(P 203) It also recommends that this Meeting raise the sum of $18.40 as Monthly Meeting stock with which this Meeting unites and directs that the same be paid to this Meeting's treasurer.

At 7%: James A. Burks, Zephaniah H. Bones, Calvin Barnard, Charles N. Averill, Bethel P. Averill and W. D. Burks.

At 5%: John Steward, John Terrell, Leander H. Dunbar, Charles O. Gause, Lindley M. Stanley, Joseph Bones and Isaac Arnold.

At 3%: Lewis C. White, David Davis, Reuben Davis, Jonathan M. Grewell, William J. Ellis, William A. Dunbar, Mariah Ellis, Thomas Durham, Lucinda Luzadder, Gulia Johnson, Smith Steward, Fannie Hodson, George Gardner.

At 1%: C. Mumford, R. C. Jones, Ellen Bones, Charles Davis, Charles Edwards, Isaac Lantz, Edward Jones, Leander Jones, Joseph White and Luther White.

The committee of apportionment are continued and directed to assist the treasurer in collecting this Meeting's money.

Charles O. Gause, Charles N. Averill, Lindley M. Stanley and Lydia Arnold are appointed to consider the propriety of having the Cemetery and Meeting a corporate body and, if necessary, to have three trustees to propose the name of some member to fill that station and report to next meeting.

(P 206) At Spring Grove Monthly Meeting of Friends held 9 month 15th 1888.

The Clerk not being present, L. M. Stanley was appointed for the day.

The Friends appointed at last meeting to procure a charter for the Spring Grove Cemetery Association report that they have attended to getting a charter as directed. L. H. Dunbar and Isaac Arnold not being present, Lydia Arnold and Charles O. Gause were substituted as trustees which report is satisfactory to the Meeting and they are directed to comply with the further directions of the Monthly Meeting.

The Trustees, C. O. Gause, W. D. Burks and Charles Averill, report that they have procured a charter for Spring Grove Monthly Meeting as directed which report is satisfactory and they are directed to comply with the further direction of the Monthly Meeting. The clerk is directed to record the two charters reported to this Meeting in the clerk's book.

The members appointed at last meeting as representatives to the Quarterly Meeting report that they all attended but 3 for which satisfactory reasons were given.

The committee appointed at last meeting on overseers report that they have not completed the object of their appointment and they are continued and to report to next meeting.

Letta Arnold requests for a sojourning minute of her membership which the Meeting is united in granting. The clerk is directed to make out and forward to her of which the following is a copy.

That the name of this corporation shall be the Spring Grove Monthly Meeting of the Friends Church.

That the purpose for which this corporation is formed is to promote the worship of God according to the rules, doctrines, and regulations of the Friends Church.
