Spring Grove Monthly Meeting of Women Friends held 2nd month 19th 1881.

First Answer: All of our meetings for worship and discipline have been attended by a few friends. A greater attendance is desirable. Unbecoming behavior avoided. The hour of meeting observed.

2nd Answer: Friends appear preserved in Christian love one towards another. Tale bearing and detraction discouraged. When differences arise, endeavors used to end them.

8th Answer: No offenders under dealing.

 

The 1st, 2nd, and 8th queries and answers thereto were read in this meeting which was satisfactory to the Meeting. They are directed to be forwarded to the approaching Quarterly Meeting by Louisa E. Updegraff and Mary Beals whom we appoint as our representatives and direct them to report to next meeting of their attendance and what may be given them in charge.

The Friends appointed to attend Quarterly Meeting in third month as representatives report they did not attend on account of disagreeable weather.

The committee appointed at last meeting concerning Rachel Stanley's intention of marriage report they find nothing to hinder further proceeding and they are left at liberty.

Spring Grove Monthly Meeting of Women Friends held 5th month 21st 1881.

First, 2nd, and 8th queries and answers were read in this meeting and approved and directed to be forwarded to the approaching Quarterly Meeting by Harriet Grewell and Louisa Updegraff who are appointed as representatives and directed to report to next meeting of their attendance and what may be given them in charge.

First Answer - All the meetings for worship and discipline have been attended but not by as many Friends as would be desired. Unbecoming behavior is avoided. The hour of meeting observed.

2nd Answer - Most Friends appear to be preserved in Christian love one towards another. Talebearing is discouraged but not altogether avoided. No differences that we know of.

Eighth - Care is taken in dealing with offenders required after.

Lydia Arnold and Ella Burks are appointed caretakers to attend Quarterly Meeting and directed to report to next meeting of their attendance.

(P 129) The Friends appointed at last meeting to prepare a certificate for Rachel P. Lindley, formerly Stanley, produced one which was read, approved, and directed to be signed and forwarded to Springfield Monthly Meeting, Kansas.

An epistle from Ohio Yearly Meeting was read in this meeting which was satisfactory and encouraging to us.

The queries with written answers to them were read in this meeting which was satisfactory to the Meeting and they are directed to be forwarded to the Quarterly Meeting by Elizabeth Burks, Matilda Steward and Mary Beals whom we appoint our representatives and direct them to report to next meeting of their attendance and what may be given them in charge.

(P 130) Matilda Stuart (Steward), a minister of the gospel, expressed in this Meeting a concern to visit in the love of the gospel the families belonging to Spring Grove Monthly Meeting with which this Meeting unites and encourages her to faithfulness therein as way opens.

Louisa E. Updegraff, a member of this Meeting, expressed a concern to accompany Matilda Stuart (Steward) in her religious visit as way opens with which this Meeting unites and encourages her to faithfulness therein as way opens.

Representatives report they attended Quarterly Meeting except one for whose absence satisfactory reason was rendered.

An epistle from Indiana Yearly Meeting was read in this meeting which was encouraging to us.

Spring Grove Monthly Meeting of Women Friends held 10th month 15th 1881.

(P 131) Eliza Burks, Mattie Steward, and Elizabeth Melton are appointed to bring forward the name of a suitable Friend to serve this Meeting as clerk the ensuing year and report to next meeting.

Spring Grove Monthly Meeting of Women Friends held 11.19.1881. The clerk being absent, Matilda Steward was appointed for the day.

The Friends appointed at last meeting to make choice of a clerk propose the name of Mattie Steward, with which the Meeting unites, and she is appointed to that station for the ensuing year.

The Friends to visit Eli Henderson and family on account of the reception of their certificates report that on account of the inconvenience of getting there, they complied with the appointment by visiting.

The following named Friends are appointed to visit and welcome Oliver Dillingham and family on account of the reception of their certificates and report to next meeting: Matilda Steward and Elizabeth Burks in conjunction with a like committee of Men Friends.

Matilda Steward and Mary Bales (Beals) are appointed to attend the ensuing Quarterly Meeting as our representatives and report to next meeting.

The missionary board report there have been nineteen meetings held. Matilda Steward, Sarah Henderson, Louisa Updegraff, Mary Bales and Elizabeth Burks are appointed to a committee.

(P 132) Spring Grove Monthly Meeting of Women Friends held 12.17.81.

The Friends to visit Oliver Dillingham and family on account of the reception of their certificates report that owing to sickness they did not visit them but attended to their appointment by writing.

Our representatives report that they did not attend the Quarterly Meeting on account of not having the money to go on the cars.

Matilda Steward and Louisa Updegraff return a minute granted them in 8th month last to visit the families with the information that the service was performed to the relief of their own minds which was satisfactory to the Meeting.

By direction of the Meeting Sarah Bones and Harriet Grewell are added to the missionary board.

Then concluded.
